Insurance sees Canada’s Baugh miss World Cup:
Canada’s star flanker Dan Baugh will miss the upcoming Rugby World Cup after Canadian bosses could not secure long-term insurance for the oft-injured forward.
The 28-year old Baugh will instead carry on playing for his Welsh club Cardiff in the Celtic League during the World Cup, after Canada could not guarantee insurance on the full two years of his Cardiff contract if he were to sustain a career-ending injury during the World Cup.
When Baugh signed his new Cardiff contract he failed to secure a clause which protected him while on international duty.
Canada subsequently bulked up its own insurance policies and offered six months worth of cover to players over the World Cup build-up and the competition itself, but this was not enough to ease Baugh’s mind – the player having suffered a number of serious injuries before.
