Metcalfe contract terminated::
Scotland international Richard Metcalfe has had his contract terminated by the Borders after a length knee injury.
The lock has not recovered from the problem which as kept him out of action since February.
After an examination by the Scottish Union medical staff, the 29 year old has been release in the second season of a three-year deal after the SRU invoked a clause in his contract as a professional player suffering a long-term injury.
SRU contracts stipulate that players unable to play due to injury for six months or more can have their contracts brought to an end.
But Borders chief executive Alastair Cranston insisted the club thought long and hard before making the decision.
He said, “It’s a difficult decision and a decision has been reached which has not been taken lightly.”
“However, the long-term nature of Richard’s injury and the uncertainty of when he may be able to return, if at all, has led to the decision.
“Everyone at The Borders wishes Richard well and we hope to see him return to his playing career one day.”
