Financial Advisors:
Since the Financial Services Act (1986), there are two types of financial adviser – Company Representatives and Independent Financial Advisers (IFA'S).
Company Representatives work for one company. They can only recommend the products and services sold by the Bank, building society or insurance company, regardless of whether it is the best product for you or not. With literally thousands of products and hundreds of companies to choose from, dealing with a company representative does narrow your choice considerably.
IFA's on the other hand do not work for one company. By law they are duty bound to find you the most suitable products to fit your individual needs. Being independent from any company ties does provide a greater choice for products and solutions to be tailored from the whole range of products available however choice is not always a good thing and with many leading financial companies such as Allied Dunbar, Legal & General and AXA you are sure to receive sound advice and good products - usually at discounted commission levels.
